ICYMI: Vistar hires new Western Canada lead

Plus, Meta expands its hiring freeze and Pratico Media adds to its consulting and content teams.

Vistar brings on senior talent in Vancouver

Programmatic out-of-home platform Vistar Media has hired Joe Lasala as senior account executive in its Vancouver office.

In his new role, Lasala has been tasked with leading Vistar’s programmatic DOOH business in Western Canada, as well as offering his expertise to clients and partners.

Lasala was most recently in the same role at Quantcast’s Vancouver office, and also brings digital media experience from Exponential, Bell Media and Cossette. Scott Mitchell, managing director for Canada at Vistar Media, says Lasala’s “extensive and highly in-demand programmatic expertise” will help bolster the company’s growth in Western Canada.

Meta institutes hiring freeze and warns of restructuring

A hiring freeze that had previously been limited to select areas of Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta has now been enacted company-wide.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg informed staff of the policy on Thursday during a call about how the company is responding to ongoing drops in revenue. Zuckerberg also warned that downsizing and restructuring of certain departments is likely.

While Meta has thus far been able to avoid the massive layoffs that have hit other tech companies this year, it previously instituted a hiring freeze in certain segments of its business in May. The company – still feeling the impact of Apple’s ATT changes on its revenue – has also been among those facing a downturn in digital ad spending amid high inflation and a looming recession. This led Zuckerberg to tell employees at the end of June that downsizing was an option in response to economic downturns.

Pratico Media hires four

Montreal-based content agency Pratico Media has made a slate of new hires across several departments.

Pamméla Fournier has been hired as head of the consulting services team, coming off of brand-side roles at Groupe Neoxis and Meubles South Shore. Lauriane Mennesson has been hired as a content creation consultant, having previously worked at INO, Préambule PR and ITQ. She’ll be working with content creation advisor Éliane Gariépy, who has previously had roles at Défilé CML and Artifice.

Finally, Émilie Clermont has joined to lead the agency’s brand marketing team, a new division managing promotions, sales, marketing and communications for books published by Pratico Édition.
