Social still has the lowest CPM among video platforms

Meanwhile, OTT has the highest of all rates.

Standard Media Index has released its Canadian CPM figures for 2022 and it appears that social video continues to offer advertisers the best bang for their buck.

Based on information from SMI clients, social video has a $6.22 CPM. Even though that is up 2% since 2021, it is down 2% since 2020 – and less than half of the CPMs for other video platforms.

OTT was the most expensive platform with a $24.88 CPM, although that is 10% lower than in 2020. Online video (excluding social) had nearly the same CPM as last year at $16.01, though that marked an 8% decline since 2020.

Finally, paid spots on linear TV for persons 25 to 55 years old had an eCPM of $15.47, up 6% versus 2021 and 17% versus 2020, the only video platform to show a significant increase over the last two years.
