Air Canada to offer live Bell Media TV on select flights

The airline expects 50% of domestic trips to offer the service by the second quarter of 2023.

Air Canada has launched live TV on select domestic flights, featuring six Canadian English and French channels from Bell Media to passengers.

The channels to be included in the service are TSN, TSN 2, RDS, CTV News Channel, LCN and BNN Bloomberg. The channels are delivered through a satellite-connected, inflight entertainment solution.

“Sports fans flying with us can enjoy the exhilaration of watching regular season, playoff and championship games in real time, while business news junkies will appreciate remaining connected to market trends and current events, right from their seat,” said John Moody, senior director product design at Air Canada.

Currently, 40 Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330 and Airbus A220 aircraft are live TV-enabled, and Air Canada expects 50% of domestic flights to offer the service by the second of quarter 2023. Domestically, Air Canada runs over 500 daily frequencies on an average day.

Passenger statistics continue to be impacted by the pandemic and service issues at airports, but pre-pandemic, Air Canada flew an average of 150,000 passengers daily. In its most recent financial quarter, the airline reported it had reached 79% of its pre-pandemic capacity.
