Canadian Tire extends sponsorship of the Canada Games

The retailer will support the next three editions of the national sporting competition.

The Canada Games Council (CGC) will have Canadian Tire on board as a sponsor for a few more years.

The CGC confirmed that Canadian Tire will continue to be a national partner of the Canada Games, a showcase of thousands of homegrown able-bodied athletes and athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities for its 2023, 2025 and 2027 editions.

The Canada Games, which alternates summer and winter events, covers 30 sports. The 2023 winter edition takes place in Prince Edward Island and begins next month, and is expected to bring more than 3600 athletes, managers and coaches.

As part of its sponsorship, Canadian Tire will create a Canada Games House to celebrate Canadian athletes together with family and friends as a dedicated bricks-and-mortar social gathering hub.

Canadian Tire has been involved with the Canada Games since 2008 through its Sport Chek banner, which also remains a sponsor of the games. Canadian Tire signed on as a national partner in its own right before the 2021 Summer Games.

“As passionate champions of sport, we are proud to extend our support of the Canada Games for another three Games,” said Kim Saunders, VP of ESG strategy, community impact and sport partnerships at Canadian Tire. “Sport is a powerful unifier that fosters strong, inclusive communities and inspires us to be our best.”

Other national partners include medal manufacturer Teck, with national suppliers including financial management software service Vision33, results tracking software service Gems Pro, sports branding site The Look Company and accounting software supplier Sage.
