Ideon Media signs as Apartment Therapy’s first Canadian ad rep

Along with sister sites The Kitchn and Cubby, the company's platforms reach 1.7 million Canadians monthly.

Ideon Media has signed a deal to serve as the exclusive Canadian ad sales partner for Apartment Therapy Media, which includes the media company’s flagship site, as well as sister sites The Kitchn and Cubby.

According to Comscore data, Apartment Therapy’s properties reach 1.7 million Canadians in an average month, over indexing with women. For women over 25, Apartment Therapy reaches twice the average, and three times the average of women over 45.

Apartment Therapy was founded in 2004 as an interior design blog, built out of an email newsletter co-founder Maxwell Ryan sent out as part of his design consultancy business. Globally, the company also has a reach of 463 million across social platforms and 20 million for its email newsletters.

The main Apartment Therapy site is still based around interior design, but in recent years has expanded its approach to be a guide for “keeping a healthy home,” adding content on subjects like natural cleaning, budgeting, pet care, pest control and growing plants. Sister-site The Kitchn features recipes, guides and advice for cooking, baking and entertaining, while Cubby is focused on design and products for parents.

This is the first time Apartment Therapy Media has signed an exclusive ad rep for the Canadian market, which Riva Syrop, president of Apartment Therapy Media, described as “pivotal” to the company. Kevin Bartus, president and CEO of Ideon Media, says that – in addition to typical digital ad sales – Ideon will also be taking the opportunity to locally produce Canadian branded content, making the platforms for accessible for local advertisers.
