UM Canada cleans up and gives back on Impact Day

In addition to supporting local communities, the program has also resulted in $500,000 in donated media for BIPOC-owned businesses over four years.

UM Canada employees joined over 120 UM offices across 50 countries yesterday to take part in UM’s sixth annual Global Impact Day, a day of service to give back to local communities around the globe.

This year, the agency’s Toronto-based employees worked to clean up the St. James Park area in partnership with the St. Lawrence Market BIA. Montreal-based employees volunteered at Maison du Bénévolat on Montreal’s South Shore to assist with kitchen duty for the organization’s lunch program for people experiencing hunger.

The hours spent in service by both teams unlocked donated media from the agency’s partners to support BIPOC-owned businesses across the country. In addition to donated media value, the program also included consulting and sharing best practices to provide businesses media knowledge and the opportunity to see continued growth, profitability, and longevity. This is the fourth year that UM Canada is supporting BIPOC-owned businesses through Impact Day. To date, the program has donated over $500,000 in media.

“I’m so proud of the team’s commitment to contribute and make a difference to the communities in which we live and work,” says Shelley Smit, CEO, UM Canada. “We are proud to continue to grow and expand our initiative supporting BIPOC-owned businesses. By continuing to give back with a sustained effort, we hope to have a lasting positive impact on the businesses we work with and our wider communities.”
