Pluto TV adds a Star Trek channel to its roster

Canadian audiences have an ad-supported way to watch the franchise's original series and Next Generation.

Pluto TV has expanded its FAST lineup with a Star Trek channel that features two of the iconic franchise’s classic series – the original Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The channel launched in time for Star Trek Day on Sept. 8. Also in recognition of the day, Pluto TV Documentary is airing documentary films and series including Trekkies, Chaos on the Bridge, The Captains and The Captains: Close Up.

The original Star Trek series aired for three seasons from 1966 to 1969, with a cast featuring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and Walter Koenig. The follow-up, Star Trek: The Next Generation, originally ran from 1987 to 1994 and is the franchise’s most-watched show. The cast includes Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner.

The new channel gives Canadians an ad-supported way to watch a selection of Star Trek content that is otherwise only available by paid subscription. On Aug. 1, Pluto TV’s parent company Paramount took over Canadian streaming rights for the full catalogue of Star Trek shows and films from Bell Media, which had previously hosted them on Crave (new episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds continue to air on CTV Sci-Fi). In addition to the other series, the rights include Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.
