Canada-based broadcaster Blue Ant Media has inked a multi-year deal with Samsung TV Plus (STVP) that will see more of its channels and content appear on the FAST/AVOD service.
The new agreement, announced Monday at the MIPCOM TV market in France, includes the launch of a new channel in Canada and “hundreds of hours of programming” released into the SPTV ecosystem via Blue Ant’s distribution arm. It builds on an existing deal between the two companies from 2021.
Blue Ant’s Homeful channel, aimed at adults ages 25 to 54, is now available to STVP users in Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand. It will be the “exclusive free streaming home” to over 200 hours of library content starring Canadian contractor Mike Holmes, including seasons one to seven of Holmes on Homes. Other programming on the channel includes Coolest Places to Stay‘s season two (six x 30 minutes), which shows the inside of handcrafted short-stay rentals; and Brojects (13 x 30 minutes), about two brothers that create extravagant construction projects at their getaway home.
The deal also includes an increased global presence for HauntTV, Blue Ant’s FAST channel that launched in Canada on SPTV last year. Featuring paranormal-themed programming, it features Blue Ant Media’s first-ever docu-series Haunted Gold Rush (two x 60 minutes); Ghost Chasers (10 x 60 minutes); and Ghostly Encounters (83 x 30 minutes).
“This deal combines carriage of Blue Ant Media’s channels with a multi-year content output from our distribution business and is a perfect example of the types of creative solutions and broad partnerships that we can offer,” said Mark Bishop, co-president, Blue Ant Studios, in a release.
Samsung TV Plus has more than 70 channels in its content offering and comes installed on all Samsung TVs. In 2022, Samsung reached a 29.7% share of TVs sold in the global market, according to Statista. This represents a slight increase over the previous year, when the share was 29.5%. The company has achieved a steady annual increase in sales in the global TV market from 2017 to 2020. Since April 2021, Samsung TV Plus is also available on Samsung mobile devices.
