Canadian Young Lions taking entries for 2024 contest

Winners here will have the opportunity to compete in Cannes against winners from around the world.

The Canadian Young Lions competition is getting ready for its 2024 edition, with registration now open for a chance to represent Canada on an international level.

From March 2 to 4, teams of two will participate in a live competition in one of five categories: print, film, digital, media and marketer. The gold winners in each category will be able to represent Canada at the Global Young Lions Competition in Cannes, France, competing against gold-winning teams in the same categories from other countries all over the world.

Over the weekend of March 2, Canadian Young Lions competitors will receive a brief and complete the challenge it details for their respective category within a 24- or 48-hour time period. Their submissions are judged by a panel of industry leaders within each category. The Canadian Young Lions Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced at the annual CMDC Summit in Toronto on April 24.

Registration for the competition will remain open until Feb. 11. The five-day International Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, where the global Young Lions competition will be held, will run from June 17 to 21, 2024.

Last year’s Canadian Young Lions finalists competed against 228 teams from 70 countries in Cannes, with Marketers Mike Miura and Ryan Grippo winning Gold, and the Film team Cory Hansen and Anthony Curran, winning Silver. Two other teams – Thierry Lessard and Olivier Houle in Media, and Andronicus Wu and Jon Dawe in Digital – received shortlists at the global contest.

The Canadian Young Lions competition is organized by national daily news outlet The Globe and Mail. The jury chairs for the Canadian competition are Mary Maddever, EVP, Canadian media brands and editorial director for Brunico Communications (Media in Canada’s parent company) for the print, digital and film panels; Cathy Collier, CEO at OMD Canada for media; and Susan Irving, CMO at Kruger Products for marketers.
