Spotted! Go Maple Leafs Go Train leaves the station

MLSE has partnered with Metrolinx to run a blue-painted GO Transit train with giveaways for passengers.

The Toronto Maple Leafs want to take the excitement of playoff games outside the arena with a blue-painted GO Transit train that runs through the GTA.

The Go Leafs Go train started engines on Saturday, when the Leafs made their first appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. It will be traveling Lakeshore West and East lines during the entire playoff season. Fans who ride on it will be able to participate in giveaways and win playoff-themed prizes. On home game days, there will be pre-game rallies at select Go stations with special guests to cheer people on before boarding the train.

“Thousands of Maple Leafs fans rely on Go Transit to head down to Scotiabank Arena and Maple Leaf Square for playoff action, making the train a unique collaboration opportunity to unite fans on their way to the city’s core during this special time of the hockey season,” Shannon Hosford, chief marketing officer at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), tells MiC. “With GO Transit’s naming, we are able to bring our team’s iconic ‘Go Leafs Go’ chant to life in a fun and authentic way for our fans and for the city,” Hosford adds.

The train is being promoted on the team’s official website and social media, as well as on GO Transit’s social media. There will also be signage at stations and on-board announcer reads by special guests. MLSE’s in-house teams are handling media buying and creative.

MLSE partnered with Metrolinx (the company that operates Go Transit) after striking a deal with TikTok to launch a channel about the Leafs and Toronto Raptors on the app. The channel, Creator Zone by TikTok, debuted on February 14 featuring a show in partnership with Frito Lay. In the program, different hosts talk about the sports culture in Toronto and what connects fans to hockey and basketball.
