Blue Ant Media has sold Canadian tech news publication Mobile Syrup to Toronto’s ZoomerMedia in a deal valued at $950,000.
The acquisition, which closed on Tuesday (June 25), will see Mobile Syrup join the Zoomer Digital Network, which includes Daily Hive, The Peak and blogTO.
Blue Ant Media acquired Mobile Syrup in 2020 as part of an expansion of its digital publications. The media company continues to own the publishing brands Animalogic and Cottage Life, a spokesperson for Blue Ant confirmed to MiC’s sister site, Playback Daily.
ZoomerMedia COO Omri Tintpulver said in a statement that the company acquired Mobile Syrup as a complement to its digital business publication The Peak, which recently launched a tech-focused newsletter, amplifying its reach in the gaming, AI, telecommunications and computing spaces.
The deal marks ZoomerMedia’s eighth acquisition in two years, according to a news release. Other recent acquisitions are digital publication Curiocity and Owen Sound, Ont. radio station CJOS 92.3FM.
“ZoomerMedia is a proven leader in Canadian digital publishing and we know that, as part of their portfolio, Mobile Syrup is well-positioned to grow to new heights,” added Jamie Schouela, Blue Ant’s president, global channels and media. “We are incredibly proud of the editorial team’s work to date and look forward to seeing how they evolve the brand next.”
