Off! partners with Google Cloud to launch mosquito forecast tool

The Off!Cast Mosquito Forecast offers seven-day forecasts for each area of the country.

Off! has partnered with Google Cloud and Climate Engine to create a digital tool that keeps people informed about summer mosquito activity.

The Off!Cast Mosquito Forecast tool, available on the brand’s website, offers seven-day forecasts for each area of the country. Leveraging Google Cloud and Google Earth Engine capabilities, the tool integrates billions of individual weather data points. And an algorithm, developed by the SC Johnson Center for Insect Science and Family Health and Climate Engine experts, translates the weather data into actionable mosquito information. According to the brand, the resulting color-coded forecasts match the mosquito’s life cycle, from egg-laying to potential human interaction.

The tool also shows the products recommended by the brand and offers the possibility of subscribing to receive weekly forecasts by email.

The brand stated that it is developing this tool to promote its new Off! Botanicals insect repellent collection, while addressing concerns about the diseases mosquitoes transmit and educating the public about their prevention. It is being launched after recent Google Canada search statistics revealed that Canada is one of the top 20 countries with the most mosquito-related searches worldwide over the last five years, with Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver leading the way.

The collaboration with Google Cloud and Climate Engine also aligns with SC Johnson’s focus on highlighting its Off! products in the marketplace and its center commitment to preventing mosquito-borne diseases, according to the brand.

“The SC Johnson Center for Insect Science and Family Health stands as a global leader in entomological research, dedicated to studying insect biology, disease prevention, and developing effective solutions for consumers,” the brand said.
