The latest AdEase report shows that Bell was the most active advertiser on TV in the week of Aug. 5 to 11.
With 2,567 combined occurrences, Bell ranked second in Vancouver and Toronto, fourth in Calgary and fifth in Montreal. Last week, from July 29 to Aug. 4, it recorded a total of 2,580 occurrences. The company kicked off this month by releasing positive financial results for the second quarter with Bell Media’s operating income increasing 0.9% to $812 million. This was driven by a 1.9% increase in advertising revenue, due in part to a strong performance in specialty sports TV, as well as the acquisition of OOH company Outedge Media Canada.
AdEase also showed that Toyota Canada was among the most active advertisers. The automaker notched up 2,353 incidences, ranking first in Vancouver and Calgary and fourth in Toronto. However, its spending fell compared to the previous week, when it recorded 2,439 occurrences. The brand has been actively celebrating its 60th anniversary in the country with a tour of different provinces to promote its different car models.
McDonald’s has also reduced its advertising spending. The QSR reported 2,336 combined occurrences, up from 3,223 the previous week. Meanwhile, Leon’s Furniture increased its buying, with 2,286 occurrences, 477 more than the prior week.
In the ranking of top spots, Trivago came in first place in Vancouver with an ad about the app’s ability to compare different prices in one place. The Brick, meanwhile, won first place in Calgary with a commercial about the last few days of its massive deals on furniture, appliances and mattresses. And Tim Hortons’ ad for its classic breakfast sandwich was the most viewed in Toronto and Montreal.
