BMO and TMU ink new partnership

The multi-year commitment makes the company the official banking partner of the university's athletics.

BMO and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) signed a multi-year deal, making the bank the official banking partner of TMU Bold, the varsity’s athletic team. This is the first time TMU has entered into this kind of strategic relationship.

Starting in the Fall and over the next three seasons, students will see BMO’s logo on TMU Bold jerseys, as well as game-day giveaways. Also, the bank will be the presenting sponsor of Homecoming 2024, one of the biggest events on the TMU calendar each year.

“Both TMU Athletics & Recreation and BMO are dedicated to the development of students and communities, making the partnership a fit for each party,” the university announced in a statement. “BMO’s purpose, to ‘Boldly Grow the Good in business and life,’ aligns with TMU’s mission to ‘champion the development of the whole student through sporting excellence and active wellbeing.'”

In addition to supporting the university’s athletics teams, BMO will support students by providing access to resources, banking capabilities, and financial literacy content to help them establish their financial life during their studies and post-graduation.

“Furthermore, BMO’s branch is steps away from campus and they will have their new flagship right around the corner at Eaton Centre,” the university said. “BMO also recently made a significant donation to TMU for research into newcomer workplace integration which showcases their commitment to equity and skills development, two of TMU’s strengths.”

“Sport has the power to inspire a sense of community and shared ambition, which can help empower students to pursue their personal and financial goals,” said Sumit Sarkar, head of customer growth, segments and value proposition at BMO. “We are proud to help students make real financial progress as the first banking partner for TMU Bold, and we’re excited to support sporting excellence on campus.”
