Torres Media to acquire Evanov’s Ottawa radio station

The new deal means that all three of the Ontario stations slated for closure this month by Evanov will continue to operate.

Evanov’s Ottawa radio station, CJWL-FM, has been saved from closure. Evanov Communications Inc. (ECI) and Torres Media Group (Torres) have reached an agreement to transfer the assets of Lite 98.5 (CJWL-FM), Ottawa to Torres.

In statement issued earlier this month, ECI had expressed its intent to close the station, along with CHRC-FM and CKHK-FM, if a suitable buyer could not be found. Last week ECI announced that a deal had been reached to transfer ownership of two of the three Ontario radio stations, CHRC-FM in Clarence-Rockland and CKHK-FM in Hawkesbury, to GO FM.

ECI president and CEO, Paul Evanov, says, “I am so thrilled that Torres and ECI agreed to keep the station on the air. As an incumbent with a stand-alone station in the Ottawa market, like we have been, we know that a sister station for Torres’ Rebel 101.7 will provide a better competitive environment and efficiencies for the success of both stations.”

Plans are already underway to prepare all the necessary business and regulatory filings to ensure the fastest track possible for the transfer.
