Bell Media combines news teams in Quebec

French and English content teams will now all be under the leadership of Suzane Landry.

Bell Media in Quebec is merging its radio and television journalism teams into one collaborative newsroom under the direction of Suzane Landry, vice-president, content development, programming and news, Quebec. Landry was already leading the French content team.

The move will bring together Noovo Info, a French-language news service (including radio journalists from Rouge and ÉNERGIE); CTV News Montreal, Montreal’s English-language news service; CJAD, Montreal’s #1 English-language radio station; and the team from digital platform Noovo Moi. The resulting entity will be one of the largest journalism teams in the province.

“Our Quebec team members are our best assets in this market, and this new structure enables us to maximize our strengths by bringing together the expertise of the News and Radio in Quebec under the leadership of Suzane Landry. This change provides the opportunity to work more collaboratively, optimize resources, and support growth across our platforms,” said Stewart Johnston, senior vice-president, content and sales.

It’s been a bit of a rough year for Bell employees. Earlier this year, the media company announced that it would be eliminating 4,800 jobs. However, Patrick Tremblay, manager, communications and public relations for Bell tells MiC that “the changes to reporting structure of our content teams in Quebec are not tied to a reduction in staff.”

“The journalists’ roles are not changing however there will be more opportunity for collaboration across the entire team,” Tremblay adds.
