From Castlecore to pickles, Pinterest unveils growing consumer trends

Based on search data from millions of users, the report gives heads up on what will drive culture in 2025.

This week Pinterest released its 2025 Pinterest Predicts Trend Report that zeroes in on growing trends for makeup, clothing, entertainment and decor.

The report is based on search data from more than 537 million monthly active users from around the world who visit the platform to plan what to do, try or shop next. It’s designed to give marketers and advertisers insights into what will drive culture. More than half (65%) of the predictions in the 2025 report are driven by Gen Z, although the report also covers trends for Gen X, Millennial and Boomer Pinterest users.

Looking ahead to 2025, a growing trend includes “Fisherman Aesthetic,” where Gen Z and Gen X will embrace a laid back maritime attitude (even if the ocean is nowhere in sight) by donning cable knit sweaters, sardine tattoos and stripes.

The report also identified trends like “Cherry Coded,” which will have Gen Z and Millennials infusing cherries into their makeup, menus and mood boards, and “Castlecore,” which focuses on medieval-inspired décor and fashion. Aura Beauty is a trend called the makeup mood ring. Gen Z and Boomers are driving this high hue look that hones in on one colour aesthetic from chin to cheek. For foodies, “Pickle Fix” is the trend that adds dill to everything from sweet treats to tangy cocktails, with Gen X and Millennials expected to go all-in on pickle cakes, pickle de gallo, pickle fries and even pickle margaritas in 2025.

According to Pinterest, over the past five years, nearly 80% of Pinterest’s predicted trends have come true. Stacy Malone, Pinterest’s VP of global business marketing, says, “Pinterest Predicts trends are identified by deeply analyzing the unique search patterns of over half a billion monthly active users who thoughtfully plan what’s next for them. While many trends come and go across the internet, Pinterest Predicts trends are steadier and remain popular for longer, providing brands with key insights that allow them to get ahead of culture instead of chasing fads.”

According to the report for 2024, this past year was going see staycations, off-roading, and a jazzy aesthetic become more popular.
