Snapchat expands its team in Canada

Snapchat has appointed former TikTok executive Norissa Samuels to fill its new position of creator partnerships lead in Canada.

Based in Snap’s Toronto office, Samuels will oversee relationships with Canadian public figures and content creators to better partner with brands. She will also work closely with the global content partnerships team to help hone their editorial perspective for Canadian content.

Previously, Samuels spent four years as the athlete and creator partnerships lead at TikTok Canada. In that position, she spearheaded the growth and evolution of athlete-driven sports content on the platform, collaborating directly with athletes, agencies and publishing partners.

Prior to TikTok, she held various partnership and community roles at MLSE, DHL and the 2017 Invictus Games. She has spent the last decade developing brands, strategies and partnerships for companies such as Coca-Cola, IBM, Live Nation Canada, Toronto Raptors, M&Ms and Tweed.

Amid the possible banning of TikTok in the U.S., Snapchat said it plans to continue expanding in Canada, with the addition of several new engineering, product and creative positions. It is also currently recruiting a Canadian policy lead. The social network has more than 11 million monthly active users and reaches more than 75% of people between the ages of 13 and 34 in Canada. Nearly 50% of Canadian Snapchatters are 25+.

Cogeco Media has a new president

Cogeco has appointed Caroline Jamet as president, Cogeco Media, effective Feb 3.

Jamet is a veteran media and entertainment executive beginning early in her career at L’Équipe Spectra, a Quebec-based production company and artist’s agency, playing a role in the growth and national and international recognition of the Montreal Jazz Festival and the FrancoFolies de Montréal.

Later at Gesca, then owner of La Presse, she assumed business leadership for two publishing divisions and the digital transformation of the newspaper. Most recently, Jamet served as the leader of Radio-Canada’s French Radio and Audio sector where she spearheaded the development of its successful digital strategy.

Cogeco Media, a subsidiary of Cogeco, owns and operates 21 radio stations including talk network stations. Cogeco Media’s stations reach nearly five million listeners each week with a range of programming. The company also owns Cogeco Nouvelles, the largest private news radio agency in Québec.
