People Moves: Matt McGowan leaving Snap

Meanwhile, Prospect Media adds VP of media.

After nearly six years at the helm of Snap in Canada, Matt McGowan (pictured above) will leave the company on March 31.

“After nearly six years in my role as general manager of Snap in Canada, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave the business at the end of this month. I did not take this decision lightly; it’s been one of the most difficult decisions in my career. The decision is a reflection of both my personal aspirations and professional goals,” McGowan says.

Snap plans to hire a new general manager in Canada. In the meantime, the social network says McGowan will collaborate with the executive team to facilitate a seamless transition.

According to Snap, Canada remains a key market for the company, which will continue to invest in new advertising solutions and drive growth for its Canadian partners.

“I’m extremely proud of the audience and revenue growth, and overall success the team has achieved over these past six years,” McGowan adds. “The business is in an exceptionally strong position, so it felt like the right time to hand over the reins and make a change.”

Snap’s most recent financial report showed that its 2024 revenue grew 16 per cent year-on-year to $5.36 billion, with fourth-quarter revenue up 14 per cent year-on-year to $1.56 billion. In North America alone, the social network’s Q4 revenue was $969 million. Direct response ad revenue was up 14 per cent year-over-year in the quarter and was the main driver of its ad revenue growth in the year. Its Snapchat+ subscribers increased from seven million to 14 million in 2024.
