Snap appoints The Trade Desk’s Bob Cornwall as new GM in Canada

Snap has appointed digital advertising veteran Bob Cornwall (pictured) as the new general manager for Canada.

In his new role, Cornwall will lead the Canadian business solutions team and nurture Snap’s strategic partnerships and client relationships in the market. He’s set to start this month and will be based in Toronto.

Cornwall brings more than two decades of experience at the intersection of media, technology and brand marketing. His background includes stints at major brands like Nike, Unilever and Kraft/Mondelez, followed by nearly a decade in leadership roles at Google/YouTube, where he worked on both product and commercial teams. Most recently, he served as country manager for The Trade Desk in Canada.

The announcement follows Matt McGowan‘s departure from Snap Canada in March after nearly six years at the helm. McGowan has since joined Bell Media as SVP of business solutions, where he is focusing on boosting ad sales and partnerships as the company transitions to a digital-first model.

Snap’s data shows the platform reaches more than 11 million monthly active users in Canada. Globally, it boasts 460 million daily active users and more than 900 million monthly active users. The platform is particularly popular among younger demographics, reaching over 90% of 13- to 24-year-olds and over 75% of 13- to 34-year-olds in more than 25 countries, including Canada.

In Q1, the platform saw a 60% year-over-year increase in active advertisers, driven by growing demand from small and medium-sized businesses.
