Industry News: Spotify enters the FAST space

Plus, Pinterest introduces new controls over AI-generated content in users' feeds.

Spotify is making its debut in the FAST market with a new channel now available on Samsung TV Plus in Canada and the U.S.

The Ringer offers more than 50 popular shows from the video podcast network of the same name, which was launched in 2016 and acquired by Spotify in 2020. Its programming includes titles such as The Rewatchables, with personalities like Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, Sean Fennessey discussing classic films; Speidi’s 16th Minute, featuring reality TV veterans Heidi and Spencer Pratt analyzing the latest in pop culture, social media trends and celebrity gossip in short episodes; and Book of Basketball 2.0, about the most important games, players and teams in the NBA.

Other podcasts include The Dave Chang Show, in which the Momofuku founder and creator/host of Netflix’s Dinner Time Live talks about his inspirations, failures and successes; The Recipe Club, in which Chang and his guests explore the art of cooking; and House of R, which explores and analyzes favourite fictional universes from franchises such as Game of Thrones and Star Wars.

The Big Picture, which offers analysis of award-winning shows, and The Ringer-Verse, a hub for nerd culture that provides in-depth analysis of IPs such as Marvel, are also part of the programming.

Pinterest introduces new AI content controls

Pinterest has announced new controls that give users greater control over how much GenAI content they see in their feed.

Users now have the ability to choose to see more or less AI-generated imagery in beauty, art, fashion and home decor content – categories that often feature AI-modified or -generated content, according to the company.

Preferences can be managed directly in settings under “refine your recommendations,” or by selecting the three-dot menu at the bottom of any pin. Alternatively, users can tap the three-dot menu on the bottom right of a pin and select a category if they see a pin that doesn’t fit their desired aesthetic.

The new update is available for Android and desktop, with iOS support coming in the weeks ahead.

The upgraded tuner builds on Pinterest’s existing tools to give users more transparency and control. Earlier this year, the platform introduced GenAI labels on image pins that the site detects may have been generated or modified using GenAI. The company now says that the labels will be more visible in the coming weeks.

Recently, Pinterest also unveiled new ad solutions at its annual global advertiser summit in early October. The social network launched a beta test of Top of Search ads, which appear in the top 10 search results in the Related Pins section. The platform also introduced local inventory ads, which allows merchants to promote in-stock products at nearby stores with call-to-action buttons, and announced the self‑service tool Media Network Connect, which enables media networks to share first-party audiences, product catalogues and conversion statistics with their ad partners.
