Spotted! Porter Airlines brings warmth to winter commutes

The airline's solar lamp activation is part of a campaign to promote its new sun destinations.

Porter Airlines is launching a new campaign to drive awareness and celebrate the airline’s expansion of its sun-destination flights.

The centerpiece of the “From Porter With Sun” campaign is a solar lamp installation at Union Station’s west wing, bathing travelers in the feeling of sunshine. Visitors can stand in front of the warm light and take home a sun-inspired treat and a postcard featuring Porter’s new flight destinations in Mexico (Cancun and Puerto Vallarta), Costa Rica (Liberia) as well as Nassau and Grand Cayman. The activation includes teaser content featuring Porter employees sharing stories behind the airline’s style and care, an approach that has resonated with Canadian audiences in the past, according to the company.

The brand notes that the experience aims to transform daily commutes into mini getaways, reinforcing Porter’s brand promise: it’s the little things that deliver a good feeling from the moment you board. The goal was also to offer a tangible expression of Porter’s “actually enjoyable economy” experience, says the brand.

The activation is supported by weather report-style news stories amplified across digital and social channels, plus collaborations with local creators. Porter says these efforts will drive traffic and showcase the potential for content capture to spark user-generated content and buzz.

There is also a social media sweepstakes component, with a round-trip flight for two to one of Porter’s sun destinations.

Academy, Porter’s social-first AOR, led the campaign. The agency, working with the airline since early 2023, has been tasked with elevating Porter’s premium economy experience into a coveted lifestyle.

The campaign follows Porter’s efforts to elevate the economy experience for North American travelers, offering perks like complimentary wine and beer in glassware, as well as gourmet appetizers and fast, free Wi-Fi on select routes. The airline is also expanding its North American network, with flights to all Canadian provinces and 16 U.S. destinations.

Porter has also been actively involved in signing sports partnerships, including a deal in July with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to become their official carrier. The airline also formed a partnership with Moosehead Breweries last December as its brewing partner.
