Refinery29 expands Unbothered into Canada

The Vice Media-owned online community for Black women promotes Kathleen Newman-Bremang to senior editor.

Unbothered, Refinery29’s community for and by Black women, has launched a Canadian edition.

Headquartered in Toronto, Unbothered Canada went live in November with a mix of local content and global stories across entertainment, lifestyle and culture verticals that speak to issues affecting Black Canadian women.

Refinery29 launched Unbothered in December of 2017. It has gone on to acquire a healthy social following — 215,000 Instagram followers with an 86% increase year over year. Its target audience is Black women aged 18 to 34.

Kathleen Newman-Bremang (pictured) has been named senior editor for the Canadian edition. Previously she was senior writer for Refinery29 Canada. She is tasked to further Unbothered’s presence in North American through feature coverage and develop the overall Canadian content strategy. She has worked as a producer with The Social, eTalk: Live at the Oscars, the iHeartRadio MMVAs and Crave’s Cravings: The Aftershow.

Refinery29 is owned by Vice Media Group.
