Shaw Media is offering up a window to the wild with the launch of digital channel Nat Geo Wild on May 7.
The Nat Geo Wild platform will be dedicated solely to wildlife and animal programming and also include event programming, specials and series.
“Canadians have a remarkable appetite for family-friendly wildlife programming,” said Shaw Media president Paul Robertson in a statement.
“No other channel offers such spectacular cinematography and stunning HD picture quality as National Geographic provides,” he added.
The channel will initially launch with content from National Geographic Channel International, though a spokesperson from Shaw says original content and Canadian programming may be added in the future.
According to a Shaw press release, the Nat Geo Wild channel will differentiate itself from National Geographic Channel International, in that the latter will continue to include adventure, exploration and science programming.
The spun-off channel’s spring lineup is set to include factual adventure series Human Shark Bait, Wild Mississippi, America The Wild, and Live like an Animal.
Later this year, Shane Untamed and a new season of Dangerous Encounters (pictured) will also join the lineup.
The channel will initially launch in Shaw and Shaw Direct households, with additional carriage announced in the coming weeks.
