OLN unveils travel series for summer-end and fall sked
CTVglobemedia's Outdoor Life Network is putting globe-trotting celebrity travel challenges into prime time this fall, leading out of Travel Week and looking ahead to mid-season.
OLN has set a premiere date for the new series Excellent Adventures, which places a celebrity with a trusted partner somewhere on the globe to accomplish one of the world’s greatest challenges.
Each episode puts a new celeb in the title, so you have Minnie Driver’s Excellent Adventure, for example. Other celebrities on the show include Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, X-Men: The Last Stand), Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly), former professional footballer Ian Wright, comedian Harry Enfield and comedian/journalist Dom Joly. The show premieres Thursday, September 6 at 8 pm ET/9 pm PT.
OLN is capping off its summer prime-time programming with OLN Travel Week, from Monday, August 27 to Friday, August 31. The week-long prime-time event will feature specials and a new season of Pilot Guides. The programming includes Exploration with Richard Wiese (Aug. 27-31 at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT); Outrageous Vacation Videos (Aug. 27-31 at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 pm PT); Ian Wright’s low-budget travel series VIP Weekends (Aug 27-31 at 8 pm ET/9 pm PT); Stranded With Cash Peters (Aug. 27-31 at 8:30 pm ET/9:30 pm PT), a survivor show featuring the British author mixing with all sorts of locals; Paris (Aug. 27-29 at 9 pm ET/10 pm PT), a three-part special on the city and the famous people who’ve lived there; Which Way to Wagah (Aug. 30 at 9 pm ET/10 pm PT), a one-hour special exploring India; Pilot Guides: September Globe Guide (Aug. 31 at 9 pm ET/10 pm PT) and Pilot Guides: October Globe Guide (Aug. 31 at 9:30 pm ET/10:30 pm PT); Don’t Forget Your Passport (Aug. 27-31 at 10 pm ET/7 pm PT); and the launch of a new Pilot Guides season (Aug. 27-31 at 11 pm ET/8 pm PT).
Looking ahead to mid-season, the net is working on Word Travels for January 2008. The show aims to give a glimpse into the seemingly glamorous world of travel journos. The 13-part half-hour series by Vancouver-based Omni Films follows two of Canada’s top travel writers, Robin Esrock and Julia Dimon, to 12 countries to get their stories. Esrock’s online travel column, Modern Gonzo, has acquired a cult following and gets printed in the Vancouver Sun, the South China Morning Post and the Chicago Tribune. Dimon writes the ‘Road Warrior’ column for Metro News in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton and Calgary.
