Shaw Media-owned Global is going for dramatic effect with its summer schedule, announcing the arrival of Combat Hospital at 10 p.m. on June 21, in addition to new seasons of popular fictional programs.
Combat Hospital (formerly known as The Hot Zone), is the network’s latest original drama and is being simulcast with ABC. The hour-long show is set in a hospital at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.
The Toronto-shot police drama Rookie Blue premieres its second season at 10 p.m. on June 23, also in simulcast with ABC. Drama continues with Global’s encore presentation of The Kennedys, which fittingly premieres July 4 at 8 p.m.
On the non-drama side, Canada Sings debuts Aug. 10 at 9 p.m. The reality show follows groups of Canadian co-workers as they battle for ballad supremacy in front of a panel of judges, which includes Jann Arden and Rob Van Winkle (a.k.a. Vanilla Ice.)
Romantic comedy is covered with the premiere of Love Bites, a new show from former Sex and the City producer Cindy Chupack on June 2 at 10 p.m.
New for Global’s daytime lineup this summer is The Talk, which features celebrity mothers, like former King of Queens star Leah Remini, discussing family issues, current events and celebrity gossip.
Rounding out the summer lineup are new seasons of Wipeout, airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and Big Brother on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
