Internet ethnic television site JumpTV has signed a deal with Telelatino (TLN) for live online streaming rights for the Latino net’s coverage of the FIFA championship soccer tournaments through to 2014 – although FIFA has yet to approve the agreement.

The agreement gives JumpTV the rights to stream all games (approximately 1,200) to Canadians with Spanish, Italian and Portuguese voiceovers. The content will be free and ad-supported, with each partner representing 50% of the responsibility for ad sales and sharing revenue based on a formula.

JumpTV expects to kick off the streaming with FIFA U-17 World Cup (U-17) in August, after this month’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, followed by selected games of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2007 in September, hosted in China.

TLN, which is majority-owned by Corus Entertainment, launched its international soccer coverage last week with coverage of both the Copa America 2007 Venezuela (June 26-July 15) and the FIFA U-20 World Cup (June 30-July 22). TLN’s coverage of the FIFA U-20 includes 28 matches with Italian and Spanish language play-by-play coverage – hosted by TLN’s Soccer Fanatics host, Gina Bucci. Her wacky co-hosts – Joe Russo, Mark Caruso and Saverio Rigillo – will appear as regular guests on AM 640 debating the action.

The Latino net’s marketing and communications plan for the two soccer tourneys includes the third annual Salsa on St. Clair festival in Toronto – for which 300,000 people are expected. The event will feature interactive soccer pavilions, an expo and a live broadcast of the Cop America final on large screen TVs placed around the 120,000 square-foot festival area.

TLN partnered with CBC for multilingual rights to the pubcaster’s FIFA rights, which also extend to 2014.
