Global’s set to premiere a game show and some scripted fare in the next few weeks, while Citytv, Space, Comedy Network, TSN and CBC are unveiling some programming plans too.
The new game show Amnesia, hosted by Dennis Miller (pictured – SNL, Dennis Miller Live) and developed by Mark Burnett, hits the Global sked for a premiere on Friday, Feb. 22 at 9 pm before settling into a regular Friday 8 pm time slot. The show gets Miller asking contestants about their own pasts, challenging them to recall events as they really happened (and vetted by family, friends and others who witnessed them).
The net has put New Amsterdam in the Monday 9 pm time slot, but Global will premiere the show first on Tuesday, March 4 at 8 pm, followed by a second ep on Wednesday, March 5 at 9 pm. The show is the story of an immortal New York homicide detective named John Amsterdam, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (The Baker, Wimbledon, Black Hawk Down).
Rogers’ Citytv is set to unveil the new six-ep romantic comedy reality series Here Come the Newlyweds on Sunday, March 2. The one-hour show, hosted by comedian Pat Bullard, gets just-married couples competing for a nest egg worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to kick-start their new lives together. It hits the air at 10 pm in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, while the Winnipeg Citytv station will air it at 9 pm.
Also notable on the Citytv Sunday-night sked is the upcoming Feb. 17 season-ender of American Gladiators, hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali, which airs at 6 pm in Winnipeg, 7 pm in Toronto and Vancouver and 8 pm in Calgary and Edmonton. Next month, Citytv is bringing back The Bachelor for its 12th season. That show will launch Monday, March 17 at 10 pm in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, and at 9 pm in Winnipeg.
Both Citytv and the Biography Channel will premiere Rock of Love next week. The reality series gives 20 ladies an all-access pass to rock star Brett Michaels’ heart. They’ll move in with the Poison frontman at his heavy metal palace in Hollywood Hills. The show premieres with a 90-minute ep on Feb. 20 (Citytv, 9 pm) and Feb. 22 (Biography, 8 pm).
If aliens are your target demo’s thing, CTVglobemedia’s Space is airing a one-hour Canadian documentary about five alleged abductees. Intruders: Abductees Speak Out airs on Sunday, Feb. 24 in the 8 pm ET/5 pm PT time slot. Another one-off from CTV’s specialty nets is the Comedy Network’s Best of the Fest: The Canadian Comedy Awards and Festival, which airs March 1 at 10 pm.
In sports programming, there’s a whole lot of curling going on. TSN is kicking off the Scotties Tournament of Hearts live this Saturday, and it runs through to Feb. 22. The net has the first seven days of the nine-day tournament before CBC broadcasts the semi-final on Feb. 23 and the championship final on Feb. 24. Then come the Strauss Canada Cup of Curling (CBC, March 1-2), the Tim Hortons Brier (TSN March 8-14, with CBC broadcasting semi-finals and championship final on March 15 and 16), the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship (TSN to announce details, CBC to air semi-finals on March 29 and finals on March 30) and the World Men’s Curling Championship (CBC, April 12-13).
