The Nature of Things with David Suzuki returns to the Ceeb on Sunday, June 22 at 6 pm with two new documentary series, both filmed in high definition.

As China prepares to open itself up to the world for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, the The Nature of Things with David Suzuki presents Wild China, a six-part series that will allow Canadians a closer look at the country.

The first installment, Wild China: Heart of the Dragon, which airs on June 22 at 6 pm ET/PT, will investigate how China’s 1.3 billion people interact with their vast and various wildlife and landscapes. It repeats on Thursday, July 3 at 10pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld.

Wild China: Shangri-La explores the mysteries of China’s southwest jungles, examining exactly how they exist and giving viewers a rare glimpse into these remote forests. This second installment of the series airs on Saturday, June 28 at 7 pm, with a repeat showing on Thursday, July 10, at 10 pm ET/PT on Newsworld.

The third installment of Suzuki’s series journeys to one of the most remote places in the world. The Tibetan plateau is home to a unique culture characterized by over 1,000 years of Buddhism. Wild China: The Tibetan Plateau airs Sunday, June 29 at 7 pm ET/PT, with a repeat performance on Newsworld on Thursday, July 17 at 10pm ET/PT.

The Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven and Beijing’s new Olympic Stadium are some of the Chinese landmarks that are explored in Wild China: Land of the Panda. Airing on Saturday, July 5 at 7pm ET/PT, with a repeat on Newsworld on Thursday, July 24 at 10 pm ET/PT, it examines the significant development China has undergone over the past 50 years.

Wild China: Beyond the Great Wall travels to China’s north, a land that’s extreme in climate and inhabited by nomadic warriors and exotic wildlife. Following in the footsteps of the traders drawn to the Silk Road, viewers will discover how this area has shaped some of the country’s most interesting people and wildlife. This ep airs on Saturday, July 12 at 7 pm ET/PT with a repeat on Thursday, July 31 on Newsworld at 10 pm ET/PT.

The sixth installment, Wild China: Tides of Change, concludes the series by taking viewers on a trip to China’s coast. Home to white dolphins, saber-wielding monkeys and deadly vipers, the area is one of sweeping contrast – from modern cities and seaweed-thatched villages to ancient tea terraces and wild wetlands. Airing on Sunday, July 13 at 6 pm ET/PT, the final episode will repeat on Newsworld Thursday, August 7 at 10 pm ET/PT.

Also airing this summer on The Nature of Things is Antarctic Mission, a four-part series in which a crew of filmmakers, scientists and mariners set sail aboard the SEDNA IV, a high-tech research sailing vessel, bound for the cold continent.

On Sunday, July 20 at 6pm, the first episode, Antarctic Mission: Islands at the Edge, is set to air. Viewers will follow the SEDNA IV as it sails across the Polar Front, one of the last great wildlife refuges on the planet, where the warm waters from the north meet the icy waters of the Antarctic. The episode will repeat on Newsworld on Wednesday, July 23 at 10pm ET/PT.

The second ep will reveal the subtle and unexpected impact of climate change by examining its effects on colonies of Adelie penguins. Antarctic Mission: A Window on a Changing Climate is set to air on Sunday, July 27 at 6 pm ET/PT with a repeat on Newsworld on Wednesday, July 30 at 10pm ET/PT.

Antarctic Mission: The Great Ocean of Life is set to air on Sunday, August 3 at 6 pm ET/PT, with a repeat performance on Newsworld on Wednesday, August 6 at 10 pm ET/PT. This third installment will draw viewers down into the cold and mystifying world beneath the hull of the SEDNA IV that is home to some of the most unusual creatures on the planet.

The final installment, Antarctic Mission: The Last Continent, will conclude the series by introducing viewers to the crew of the SEDNA IV as they set off to observe the consequences of climate change on the icy continent up close. The concluding episode airs on Saturday, August 30 at 7 pm ET/PT with repeat showings on Newsworld on Sunday, August 31 at 8 pm ET and Monday, September 1 at 5pm ET.
