CTV remains tight-lipped about its programming plans for Flashpoint, following word that CBS has changed course and bumped the remaining episodes of the cop drama’s second cycle to mid-season 2010.
Nine new episodes of the series, which is currently shooting its second season in Toronto, were due to begin airing on the US net on July 17, in the Friday 9 pm slot. CBS told its producers at Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment last week that the ‘back nine’ will instead run sometime after the fall rush. It is showing reruns in the interim.
The first nine episodes of the season aired in simulcast on CBS and CTV from January through May. CBS had planned to run the remaining episodes from July into September out of simulcast. Avamar’s Bill Mustos says CTV had previously decided not to air the back nine in step with the US network, and instead planned to run them at some unspecified time in the fall.
A CTV spokesperson said the net has still ‘not confirmed its broadcast plans for the remainder of season two.’
Mustos says CTV has ordered a third season of the show – another 13 hours – and there is hope that CBS will return to the series too, which could see the third season bumped to another 18 eps.
He notes that keeping track of Flashpoint‘s seasons can be confusing, in part because the first nine episodes of season two include four episodes which were held back from season one.
