Despite Maelle Ricker’s bid for a gold medal in women’s snowboard cross on Tuesday, it was men’s hockey that won the day’s ratings with an average of 6.2 million viewers nationally.

The game peaked at 9 million viewers in its final minute and was the most-watched event in primetime since the Games began. Overall, the prime time slot earned an average audience across the Constorium networks of 5.7 million. Thanks to BBM’s Portable People Meters, the CUME stats for the day also revealed that more than half of the Canadian population has watched the Games outside their home.

The Olympic websites were also a hot ticket on Day 5, with 1.1 million live videos watched and 300,000 people participating in the sites’ live blogs.

The top five most-watched sports of the day on TV were:

5. Men’s Curling (CAN/NOR): 1.9 million (CTV, V/CPAC, RDS, APTN)
