Showcase to play Endgame

The Canwest channel has green-lit the one-hour drama about a crime-solving chess champion.

Showcase has picked up Endgame, a one-hour drama from Thunderbird Films and Front Street Pictures about a crime-solving chess champion. The 13-episode run has been slated for sometime in spring 2011, following shooting this summer.

The series comes from creator and showrunner Avrum Jacobson (Republic of Doyle, ReGenesis), and executive producers Michael Shepard and Harvey Kahn.

Word on casting is expected shortly, including that of the lead – an apparent hybrid of Bobby Fischer, Howard Hughes and Dr. House – who solves crimes without leaving his luxury hotel room, with help from a cadre of staff and chess fanatics.

‘The drama and suspense of Endgame are sure to intrigue our audiences,’ said Christine Shipton, drama chief at Canwest Broadcasting, in a release. ‘The colourful characters and storylines will make for an unforgettable TV viewing experience.’
