Remington stages holiday viral contest

To celebrate the season and promote its new titanium shaver, the grooming-products biggie has launched a contest that invites consumers to take a shot at creating an extreme makeover for, would you believe, Santa Claus.

How might good old Kris Kringle look without his fluffy, white beard? Or should he perhaps sport a more 21st century version of it? To attract some fresh thinking on the subject, the Madison, Wisconsin-based Remington company has launched a playful contest and interactive website. At ShaveSanta.com, consumers can grab a virtual razor and give the big guy a brand new look. They can then share their hirsute artistry with other site visitors in ‘Santa’s Gallery.’

Consumers can also enter the Shave Santa contest to win Remington’s Titanium MicroFlex 800 razor or a $20 mail-in rebate coupon for any Remington electric shaver. As a final flourish, they can also send a Christmas wish list to their own personal Santas, or just an eCard, from the site.

The contest and website are part of an overall holiday program for Remington shavers which also includes a new TV ad campaign featuring supermodel Cindy Crawford. The creative was done by Madison, WI-based Spectrum Brands.
