Battle of the Monday prime-timers

CTV and Global are going head-to-head with Monday night programming, as this week's numbers show them nose-to-nose across the nation.

Nationally, Monday’s 8 pm time slot saw CTV’s Corner Gas reel in 1.5 million viewers. Global’s new episode of Prison Break captured 1.45 million. In the first half-hour, Corner Gas measured about 6% more viewers than Prison Break, but after 8:30 pm (during CTV’s The Class) remote controls started clicking elsewhere, giving more weight to Global. The 9 pm time slot gave the national top spot to Global, with 1.3 million viewers for Heroes, while an encore episode of CTV’s Criminal Minds delivered 1.11 million. When the prime-time clock struck 10 pm, the national audience win flipped back to CTV for CSI: Miami, which attracted 2.83 million viewers – three times as many as Global’s 24.

But a look at the Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary markets for Jan. 22 reveals Global to be a winner in the key urban demos. Prison Break‘s 1.4 million viewers 2+ (910,000 viewers in its key A18-49 demo) made it the #1 program in Toronto and Vancouver. The 9 pm time slot saw Global’s 1.3 million viewers for Heroes national win extend to the A18-49 demo (827,000). Although CTV claimed the nationwide win for 10 pm, Global’s Heroes measured 124% more viewership in Calgary than the numbers for CTV’s CSI: Miami in that city.
