HGTV has signed an exclusive two-year production and development deal for a new Canadian series leveraging the popularity of interior design duo Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan. Home Heist debuts in HGTV’s fall schedule, aiming to draw in and build on the duo’s existing fan base in Canada.
Home Heist will give the pair a chance to go inside Canadian homes in a mission to expose and correct design disasters. Brand integration opportunities will be available through Alliance Atlantis’ in-house Synergy department. The series starts shooting in the Greater Toronto Area in April, for an October launch. HGTV is currently looking for Canadian design crimes to be featured in the program, and a casting call is live at www.hgtv.ca/castingcall.
McAllister and Ryan’s UK-produced shows – How NOT to Decorate, Trading Up and Million Pound Property Experiment – have raked in record audiences for HGTV and BBC Canada. How NOT to Decorate originally aired on the British net Five. How NOT to Decorate was the number one program on BBC Canada for women 25-54 in fall 2006 and the top new program for for adults and women 25-54 when it launched on HGTV (Trading Up was the second highest). Million Pound Property ranking among the top ten on BBC Canada for adults 25-54 in summer 2005, and it launched as HGTV’s top new program for that year’s fall schedule. A Trading it Up marathon on Canada Weekend in July 2006 boosted BBC Canada’s audiences by 71% for its timeslots.
