Sunday night’s 2007 JUNO Awards on CTV finished with a national average audience of 912,000 viewers, down from a Nielsen count of 1.225 million in 2006. Total reached peaked at 3.7 million Canadians who tuned in at some point in the broadcast. The 2005 JUNOs audience was about 1.217 million (Nielsen, 2+), while the 2004 broadcast attracted 1.343 million viewers. The half-hour eTalk at the JUNOs lead-in attracted 550,000 viewers for the red carpet arrivals at 6:30 pm.
CTV Media Group chair and president of programming Susanne Boyce says the net is ‘extremely proud’ of the awards show’s performance up against the ratings juggernaut Amazing Race on CBS. Last week, CTV bowed to pressure from the Canadian music community to give programming priority to the JUNOs over the Amazing Race. In Canada, the special two-hour ep of Amazing Race, airing at 9 pm ET, out of simulcast, recorded 1.08 million viewers.
