Astral Media Outdoor’s bid for the 20-year street furniture contract in Toronto has been given the rubber stamp by city officials. The company issued a press release announcing its victory late Friday. In April, a staff report recommended the contract go to Astral Media Outdoor.
The company, backed by a partnership with Toronto-based Kramer Design Associates, now has the official go-ahead to provide 5,000 transit shelters (2,000 more than currently exist), 12,500 litter/recycling bins, 2,000 benches, 500 multi-box newspaper vending boxes, 120 information pillars, 2,500 postering/neighbourhood information structures (500 pillars, 2,000 pole-and-board type), 20 public washrooms and 1,000 bicycle racks.
Astral Media Outdoor’s proposal won against bids by CBS Outdoor and Clear Channel Outdoor. Each of the bids was made public online at Toronto.ca/StreetFurniture and put on display at the end of March.
