August brings sharks, pranks and conspiracies

CTVglobemedia's specialty channels are offering a veritable potpourri of programming.

Here’s a snapshot of what CTVglobemedia’s specialty nets are doing as the skeds roll into August:

The Comedy Network is importing the Italian hidden camera prank show Extreme Wind-Ups for a July 25 premiere. The show targets Hollywood stars – from Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mickey Rourke to Boy George and Dustin Hoffman (pictured) – as well as Italian footballers, TV personalities and others. The 13-ep series hits the Wednesday 10 pm ET/PT time slot.

OLN is premiering How Not To Die, a series about amazing survival stories, on Tuesday, July 31 in the 9 pm ET/10 pm PT time slot. The show includes re-enactments and interviews with people who have lived through home invasions, car and plane crashes, the dark alleyway dangers of urban environments and dream vacations that turn into nightmares. Survival expert Chris Ryan adds commentary.

Discovery Civilization is premiering Conspiracies on Trial on August 1. The show explores some of the world’s most enduring conspiracy theories, putting each through a battery of methodical tests – body mechanics, surveillance tech, forensics and reconstruction. Conspiracies covered include the Da Vinci Code, the death of media mogul Robert Maxwell, the death of Pope John Paul I in 1978 and the sinking of the Kursk submarine. Discovery Civilization will air two back-to-back episodes over two weeks. The premiere will air in Wednesday’s 9 pm ET/7 pm PT time slot.
