Sharp goes after Canadian golfers online

Sharp is targeting hardcore golfers with a new prize-packed online contest.

Sharp Electronics has partnered with Callaway Golf for an online contest tied to upcoming golf events including the British Open (July 19-22), the Senior British Open, the Women’s British Open and the PGA championship. Naturally, the campaign promoting the Sharp AQUOS Championship Golf Giveaway will include on-air spots with TSN during the events. But the campaign’s also got in-store banners and retail displays, plus an interactive game.

The microsite SharpGolf.ca allows users to sign up simply by registering, although they must invite three friends to try for the grand prize: a Sharp AQUOS HDTV, a Callaway set of clubs and a trip for four to Toronto, including accommodations and several rounds of golf. An interactive putting game gives users the chance to win instant prizes, from Callaway-branded golf merchandise to Sharp i-Elegance iPod docking systems.

Sharp consumer electronics marketing manager Chris Matto says the campaign builds on previous golf-themed promotions and the company’s own market analysis, which showed that there is ‘a clear tie between Sharp AQUOS LCD TV customers and people who enjoy golf.’

Toronto-based Promotivate International developed the creative and concepts for the giveaway. The contest runs until August 25.
