Viewers to pick Canadian Idol songs

CTV is marking a first in online participation for the homegrown juggernaut, and the sponsors are live with branded Idol content.

CTV is giving viewers the chance to vote online for what songs Canadian Idol competitors will sing on the show’s first ‘Judges & People’s Choice’ episode.

Viewers are invited to vote at the sponsor-packed microsite Idol.CTV.ca until Aug. 28, selecting from a shortlist of three songs per competitor. The competitors will also each perform a song chosen by the judging panel.

The performance episode will air Monday, Sept. 3 at 9 pm ET/PT. The Top 3 results episode on Tuesday, Sept. 4 will be expanded to one hour in the 8 pm time slot and will feature a live performance by 2005 Canadian Idol champion Kalan Porter.

CTV president of programming Susanne Boyce, who also chairs the CTV Media Group, says the show ‘has always been a participatory process with our viewers, and this unique show takes fan interaction one step further.’

Sponsor integration at Idol.CTV.ca includes a McDonald’s branded mini-game, a contest by Pantene Pro V Shine, a TD Canada Trust Comfort Zone photo gallery and Kraft Idol Confidential video extras.
