Best Health launching UGC effort

In Readers Digest's first foray into social media, its new health mag is asking women 35-55 for surefire ways to beat stress, home remedies for glowing skin and other tips. . . viewable on YouTube.

Readers Digest Magazines is attempting to build launch-time buzz this month for its new mag, Best Health, by asking Canadian women for their best user-generated content in the form of YouTube clips of good health tips.

The contest invites submissions of users’ best health secrets for feeling beautiful, being healthier, eating well and embracing life. As incentives, the mag is putting up $2,000 in prizes and the opportunity to appear in its pages.

The move is a first foray into social media for Readers Digest Magazines Canada. The company hired Spark, responsible for the recent Dairy Farmers of Canada’s Moo Clue Crew, to create a promotional video. It can be viewed at www.youtube.com/group/besthealthcontest. Toronto-based Maverick PR is handling public relations for the initiative.

The contest ends April 18. Prizes include $1,000 for first place, a Sony DVD handycam camcorder for second place, a $250 spa gift certificate for third place and spa baskets for the top five honorable mentions.
