Sound Source Networks, a division of Astral Media Radio, announced yesterday that it’s bringing notorious Internet gossip king Perez Hilton to Canadian audiences.
Premiering on Monday, May 5, Perez Hilton will be heard twice daily with fresh updates from his enormously successful blog www.PerezHilton.com. Named by Forbes magazine the number-one web celebrity last year, Hilton was recently described by the Los Angeles Times as being ‘like US Weekly, the Star and the Enquirer all rolled into one sweet yet snarky, sagacious yet salacious gay man.’
Sound Source Networks president Jean-Marie Heimrath tells MiC that ‘Perez is as electric and entertaining on air as he is on his blog. Having someone as compelling as Perez as part of a station line-up will significantly drive a radio station’s brand to hip and cool. And this is the first time a superstar created on the Internet has made the transition to radio.’
Adds Lesley Soldat, Sound Source VP operations: ‘The demand for the show is very brisk, with lots of interest from competing stations. Right out of the box, we’ve confirmed the following Astral stations: CKZZ FM – Vancouver (CRAVE), CIBK FM – Calgary (VIBE), CKMM FM – Winnipeg (HOT 103), CKFM FM in Toronto (MIX 99.9 FM), CFRB in Toronto (NEWS TALK 1010) and CJFM FM in Montreal (MIX 96).’
Non-Astral stations that have signed on so far, says Soldat, are: CHBN FM – Edmonton (BOUNCE), CJBZ FM – Lethbridge (B93) and CIOO FM in Montreal (C100).
