MMA kicks off on The Score

The sports broadcaster will feature a live martial arts event from the Playboy Mansion as well as regular Strikeforce programming.

Toronto-based sports network The Score has added a bit of punch to its lineup after signing a deal to deliver live programming from the world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) federation, Strikeforce.

‘Mixed Martial Arts is a big part of our strategy going forward, and the Strikeforce brand fits right into that,’ Greg Sansone, VP, production, The Score, tells MiC.

On Sept. 20 from 10:30 pm until 2:30 pm, The Score will broadcast Strikeforce at the Mansion II, a live telecast of an MMA event broadcast from the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills. A repeat broadcast of the event will air on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 8 pm, featuring the best two hours of the event.

The sports broadcaster, which reaches more than 6.4 million homes in Canada, started carrying weekly Strikeforce programming on Sept. 6. It includes back-to-back 30-minute episodes that air three times a week – Saturdays at 8 pm and 12 am and Sundays at 9 pm. Each episode will include a series of Strikeforce bouts, as well as fighter profiles and highlights.
