Virgin drives customers to MySpace

The mobile company is teaming up with the social network to give its young demo a shot at being large and in charge.

Virgin Mobile is tapping further into its Internet-addicted, mobile-savvy market by partnering with MySpace. The ‘Be a Star’ contest, which runs until Oct. 23, gives contestants a shot at being in charge of the MySpace Canada Music Page, choosing the artists and music videos that will be featured.

The contest, which was announced to customers via Virgin Mobile’s ‘Live’ function, allows contestants to plug into their MySpace account directly from their Virgin Mobile phone.

‘We have a young base that loves social community sites, so it’s a great fit to team up with MySpace,’ explains Chris Baines, head of PR for Virgin Mobile Canada.

‘Every day you plug into MySpace through Virgin Mobile Live you’ll be auto-entered, so the more you check it, the closer you are to winning,’ says Andrew Bridge, director brand communications for Virgin Mobile. ‘Everyone who heads to MySpace on their Virgin Mobile phone will be in the running.’

The Virgin Mobile group of companies has over 10 million customers worldwide.
