Digital movie kiosks add in-store spot opps at Mac’s

Signifi Solutions says self-serve kiosks will be a growing segment in the future.

Toronto-based Signifi Solutions, which makes digital self-serve kiosks, has partnered with Mac’s to bring movie rental kiosks to the retailers’ network of Ontario stores.

The new high-tech Movie Spot kiosks, which also recently rolled out in chains such as Sobey’s and Zellers, come with 32-inch digital signage and run ad spots and movie trailers, Erin O’Neil, VP marketing, Signifi, tells MiC.

O’Neil says advertisers could run commercials or even frozen frames on the digital screens. By the end of 2009, the company expects to launch 300 kiosks nationwide.

As well, Movie Spots allow consumers to view the repertoire of titles available at www.moviespot.ca., and order and download movies online.

O’Neil says on-demand kiosks are gaining ground as more consumers look for convenience and accessibility. In 2007, movie rental kiosks throughout North America brought in US $197 million in revenues, as per California-based media research co Adams Media Research.
