W Network rushes Dollars and Sense into the sked

A timely new call-in show will reap interactive ROI as host Alison Griffiths answers hot-button financial questions, and financial brands are expected to chip in.

A new live call-in show on the W Network will provide viewers with advice on how to save and spend their hard-earned money. W has a long history of integrating its shows with financial institutions, and Dollars and Sense is expected to follow suit.

Dollars & Sense with Alison Griffiths will air on Monday nights at 10 pm starting Feb. 2. The recessionary-timed half-hour series will dispense advice on investing and personal money management, occasionally with the help of guest experts.

‘It’s an interactive opportunity for our audience. We want them to feel involved and to get answers quickly,’ says Vibika Bianchi, director of original productions at Corus Entertainment.

But mainly it will utilize the experience of Griffiths, an author and journalist who co-writes a financial advice column in the Toronto Star with her husband, David Cruise. Griffiths also stars in another W show, Maxed Out.

‘Because Alison Griffiths is an established financial guru, she gets requests and emails from people across the country, so she’s going to use those as well to support the show,’ says Bianchi.

The series will also be simulcast on VIVA, and the target demographic is 25 plus. It was a scramble to put the show together, says Bianchi, as the decision was only made in December. ‘We are building up a web presence for the show, it’s just not going to happen immediately,’ she says.
