The belt-tightening continues at CTV, which announced on Tuesday that it is eliminating 24 jobs at its early morning show Canada AM, while the network is also cancelling local morning program First News in Montreal.
The jobs affected at Canada AM are mostly staff that produce local news segments for single markets across the country – except for Toronto and Halifax – rather than on the show’s national broadcast.
Meanwhile, four positions will be lost at First News, one which is currently unfilled. In a release the broadcaster states the move is the ‘latest in ongoing efforts by CTV to maximize efficiencies in the face of today’s economic reality.’
Last week CTV cut 118 jobs at its A-branded channels as part of ongoing restructuring of the secondary stations. It also shut down stations in Wingham and Wheatley in southwestern Ontario, while its CKX-TV station in Manitoba is also preparing to close.
