O’Leary joins Lang on Newsworld

From the Shark Tank and the Dragons' Den, CBC has plucked Kevin O'Leary to co-anchor a new weekday business program.

Celebrity entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary is set to join CBC News as co-anchor on a new weekday business program that will bow on CBC Newsworld in the fall.

The high-profile hire comes as CBC continues to retune its news division and revamp brands such as Newsworld. The as-of-yet untitled half-hour show will feature O’Leary and former Business News Network colleague Amanda Lang, who was tapped by the pubcaster last month. The pair worked together on BNN’s SqueezePlay.

No airdate has been set and CBC spokesperson Jeff Keay says it’s too soon to discuss details of the show, though he added that the network is ‘very excited about welcoming both of them to Newsworld.’

The brash O’Leary is best known as one of the titular entrepreneurs on the CBC reality Dragon’s Den, and also appeared on the US version Shark Tank, which aired on ABC in the summer. He is chairman of O’Leary Funds and manager of the publicly traded family of O’Leary Global Equity and Income Funds.

‘Amanda is one of the best business hosts in this country and I’m looking forward to sparring with her again,’ commented O’Leary in a release.
