There is rarely a line that Kenny and Spenny won’t cross, but that may change when they see what fans have in mind via a new contest to promote the show’s sixth season.
The ‘Kenny and Spenny Seek Inspiration from the Nation’ contest, launched this week on Showcase.ca, invites viewers to come up with their own ideas for Kenny vs. Spenny competitions. Each week, the duo battles it out in a series of ridiculous competitions, the winner of which gets to humiliate the other by forcing them to do an embarrassing stunt.
The contest, a first for the show, runs through Sept. 30. During that time, fans can submit their ideas to the show on the Showcase site. The winner, chosen by Kenny and Spenny themselves, gets to see his or her idea executed on an episode of the show and will be interviewed on the Showcase blog. Given Kenny vs. Spenny‘s ‘fanatical following’ and the popularity of the duo’s blogs, doing an interactive web-based promotion for the show was a natural fit, Canwest spokesperson Michelle Lemmon tells MiC.
‘The contest allows fans to interact with the show like never before and encourages creativity in thinking up outrageous competition ideas,’ she explains. Promotion of the contest is driven by on-air promos running on the network, contest bugs that will run during Friday-night re-runs of the show and ads on the network site.
Targeting the 25-to-54 adult demographic, the sixth season of Kenny vs. Spenny launches Nov. 15 for a 13-episode run. The series is still in production, Lemmon says, so advertising opportunities such as product integration, tagged promos, bugs and sponsored viewer advisories are still available.
