OMNI bows new Mandarin-language show

New 20-part series seeks to reflect Canadian immigrant experience.

A new 20-part Mandarin-language television series will debut on OMNI television nationally next week, with a goal of reflecting the Canadian immigrant experience.

Once upon a time in Toronto will first air on Saturday Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario (PT, MT and ET respectively). The one-hour drama will air in back-to-back episodes each week, with all Mandarin dialogue subtitled in Cantonese and English. The show follows the lives of a group of people in the aftermath of a car accident, featuring a multi-ethnic cast drawn from both Canada and China.

Once upon a time in Toronto reflects the immigrant experience in a tale that relates to people beyond borders. This work is a landmark in multilingual and multicultural television production around the world,’ Leslie Sole, CEO, television, Rogers Media, said in a press release announcing the show’s debut.
